Five men were held, and one firearm recovered following a police chase in the Woodbrook district, early this morning.
Around 1am today, officers of the Port-of-Spain Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Stolen Vehicles Squad were conducting an exercise at a carnival party when they received information about five male occupants in a white Tiida.
Acting on the information, the officers attempted to intercept the vehicle in the vicinity of St. Clair Avenue but, the driver failed to stop.
Moments later, the officers were able to bring the vehicle to a stop along Brabant Street, Woodbrook. Upon searching the vehicle, the officers found a 9.mm Astra Pistol with four live rounds and one spent shell.
The five male occupants were immediately arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
The exercise was coordinated by Supt. Simon, Sgt. Price, Cpls (Ag.) Forgeine and Fournillier and included other officers of the Port-of-Spain CID and Stolen Vehicles Squad.
