Five recaptured prisoners plead not guilty to escaping lawful custody
Five prisoners who escaped the Golden Grove Prison in Arouca last week, are back within prison walls today, having appeared before the courts on the offence of escaping lawful custody.
Atiba Sealy, Stefon Austin, Joshua Janet, Brent Johnson and Mikhale Mohammed all appeared on Monday before Magistrate Cheron Raphael in the Arima Magistrates' First Court.
They all plead not guilty to the offence.
Bail was not considered as the five were already in Remand Yard for other matters.
The matter was then adjourned to June 20.
Kerry Valentino, the sixth accused who escaped custody, is expected to be brought before the court on Tuesday.
He was initially brought on Monday, however, he complained of feeling unwell and was taken for medical treatment.
Prisoners Olatunji Denbow and Michael Findley, who also escaped with the six aforementioned men last Wednesday, are still at large.
The six captured men were held in Las Lomas between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, during joint operations led by officers of the Northern Division and Central Division, led by ACP McDonald Jacob, ASP Richard Smith, and Sgt Figaro.
More on this as it becomes available.
