The Mayaro/ Rio Claro Regional Corporation has advised that water levels on the Mafeking Main Road have risen to the point where most vehicles are unable to pass.
The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government says a truck has been dispatched to assist in transporting people across the flooded sections of the roadway
Residents are advised to proceed with caution and to observe the directions of officials on site.
Meanwhile, Mayaro MP Rushton Paray issued an update at 8 pm noting that the Naparima Mayaro Road near Mafeking Temple is impassable.
"I suspect as the night proceeds, the levels may rise making it impassible to all vehicles."
Paray says Cedar Grove residents remain marooned with no vehicles able to get in or out. He adds that inner Mafeking is waterlogged with several sections of the roadway underwater. Light vehicles are still unable to pass.
The Manzanilla road is, however, accessible.
"I urge everyone to exercise extreme caution and the single point of contact for all emergencies remain our DMU."
