Foodie Focus: Savouring sea views, seafood, and tapas at Boquerón

Watching the sunset, sipping sangria, savouring locally sourced oysters served in their shells…no, you’re not on a balcony in Madrid, but right here in Trinidad and Tobago.

Bringing together Spanish cuisine with T&T’s laid-back Caribbean vibe, Boquerón is a brand new tapas and seafood restaurant featuring delicious ocean-to-table seafood and Spanish-style tapas.

Managing Director Ross Milne, former managing director of well-known Woodbrook hot spot Rossco’s, said this focus on fresh, flavourful seafood is well-matched by the restaurant’s tropical setting and panoramic sea views.

“We want people to have a relaxing dining experience, enjoy delicious, locally sourced seafood, great drinks and we also want them to be able to savour the views,” said Milne, who says green turtles and other marine life often swim right up to the base of the restaurant which overlooks the bay at Chaguaramas.

Tapas are small sharing plates, made popular in Spanish restaurants and bars. The word "Boquerón" means anchovy in Spanish, a popular tapas dish.

Some of the hot tapas items include Pulpo a la Gallega (grilled octopus with olive oil and spicy paprika), Crown conch served in their shells with Wine and Cilantro Butter and succulent Pan Seared Scallops in lemon caper sauce.

Of the seafood main dishes, the Braised Caribbean Spiny Lobster in White Wine, Olive Oil, Garlic, Red Pepper and Cherry Tomatoes is a sure winner.

Boquerón also has a very popular weekend brunch, which features delicious treats like oysters in their shells, bottomless mimosas, and of course, a range of breakfast and brunch items.

The restaurant’s design also features a beautiful light display of woven baskets, which were created by the Trinidad and Tobago Blind Welfare Association.

The restaurant also has disabled access via the main elevator on the ground floor, ample parking and, of course, all the sea views your heart desires.

Visit them at Western Main Road, Chaguaramas, next to Skallywag Bay Theme Park.
