Former police officer dies following botched robbery

A former police officer is said to have succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained in the capital city.

According to police reports around midday on Thursday, officers of the Municipal Police responded to a report of an attempted robbery along great Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain, opposite City Hall.

When officers attempted to intervene, the suspect allegedly fought back and reached for the weapon of one of the responding officers.

The officer resisted and shot at the assailant.

The alleged robber sustained shots about the body and was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

He succumbed to his injuries during the day.

He was later identified as Pascal Roberts.
