Former SRP caught attempting to steal a car

A former special reserve police (SRP) officer is currently in police custody after he was allegedly held on Thursday night attempting to steal a vehicle.

The suspect, who LoopTT was told was last attached to the Mayaro Police Station in the Eastern Division, was arrested by officers of the Central Division.

Chaguanas police were responding to a report that a man dressed in a police jersey appeared to be attempting to steal a vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found a man who matched the description given.

He was detained as a result.

The former SRP officer was then taken to the Chaguanas Police Station and is expected to be questioned this weekend before he is charged and brought before the courts.

More on this as it becomes available.
