Four in custody for carjackings

Four men are currently in police custody as the main suspects in a ring of carjacking incidents reported in the Western and Port of Spain Divisions.

The four men were held on Friday night in a white Nissan Tiida near Neslon Street and Prince Street.

They were arrested by officers of the Inter Agency Task Force, who responding to a report of a carjacking in St James where a group of armed men robbed a 28-year-old man from Maraval of his Nissan Almera at gunpoint.

The Almera was found and seized along Maresse Smith Street, St James.

It had been temporary abandoned after the robbery, and police believe the assailants would have returned to the location to “pick-up” the stolen vehicle at a later time.

The four men, said to be between the ages of 18 and 35, are expected to be placed on identification parades today.
