Four years hard labour for jewellery thief

A 29-year-old man who robbed a jewellery store in Port of Spain last year of an estimated $1 million in valuables, was sentenced to four years hard labour.

Esau Nicholas Rampersad, of Farouk Lane, El Socorro, pleaded guilty to the offence – stealing $935,591 in jewellery.

His matter was heard in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Nizam Khan.

He was represented by Seanna Baboolal.

The incident allegedly took place on the morning of October 24, 2018.

Rampersad was held as he exited the Charlotte Street, Port of Spain, store, with the loot in hand.

And while the court was told that Rampersad was remorseful for his actions, Khan said that such acts, could not be condoned.

After further deliberations, Rampersad was sentenced.

More on this as it becomes available.
