Four years hard labour for Venezuelan caught with loaded gun

A 31-year-old Venezuelan national was sentenced to four years hard labour for possession of a firearm and six rounds of ammunition.

Siendo Louis Carlos pleaded guilty to the allegations upon appearing before San Fernando Magistrate Anslem Leander.

Carlos was represented by attorney Oscar Babootee.

The State was represented by police prosecutor Sgt Rodney Gangoo.

On December 4, 2019, Carlos was held with a firearm during a police exercise in Debe around 8.30 pm.

The officers observed the 31-year-old who acted suspiciously on seeing them.

They conducted a search and found the loaded weapon.

Carlos was subsequently arrested and charged.

After submissions to the court, he was sentenced to two yearsHowever, b hard labour for firearm possession and two years hard labour for ammunition possession.

Both sentences will run concurrently which means the Venezuelan national will only serve two years.
