Fourth suspect charged in kidnapping of La Brea man

A fourth person has been charged in connection with a report of kidnapping against a La Brea man which occurred on March 28.

Jeffery Despot, 50, of Beach Road, Vance River Village, Guapo appeared before a Point Fortin Magistrate via video conferencing on Thursday to answer to the charge.

He was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 with surety or $20,000 cash.

The matter was adjourned to July 23.

The victim reported to police that he was at one of his properties at Beach Road, Vance River Village, La Brea, when he got into an argument with four persons known to him.

During the incident, the victim was bound and tied in a house for about 10 minutes, while he was beaten by the assailants.

He was subsequently released and proceeded to the Point Fortin district hospital to seek medical attention.

A report was made to the police which resulted in three persons being arrested and charged in connection with the incident between the period April and May 2020.

Despot subsequently surrendered himself to officers of the Guapo Police Station on Tuesday and was subsequently charged by Cpl Ramjattan on Wednesday.
