The hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) transits the Pacific Ocean. Comfort arrived in Callao, Peru, for the second port visit of its 2019 deployment, July 8, 2019.

Citizens will have the opportunity to access free medical services aboard the United States naval ship (USNS) Comfort, which is scheduled to dock in Trinidad in September.

From September 5 – 10, the hospital ship will offer a range of free medical services including surgeries.

Among the services to be offered on the vessel: ophthalmology, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, oral maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, wound care, and urology.

A memo issued by the office of MP for La Brea Nicole Olivierre last Friday invited people to register for medical services to be provided by the US ship.

Interested persons were advised to call Olivierre's office and provide their name, diagnosis (if any), and contact information, along with clinic cards – if available.

The ship will dock at the La Brea port and conduct a number of surgeries onboard, as well as provide basic medical services in Cedros, Debe, La Brea, and Point Fortin to the regional population.

The visit is part of the ship’s five-month deployment to Latin America and the Caribbean on a medical assistance mission.

Medical teams from Comfort will be working alongside host nation medical professionals to provide a range of medical services to adults and children at the medical sites, including basic surgical care on board the vessel. It’s expected that the vessel’s arrival will assist in relieving pressure on national medical systems strained by an increase in cross-border migrants.

The vessel’s scheduled visit is the seventh hospital ship deployment to the region since 2007 and the second to this country.

Comfort medical teams will also provide care in Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Panama, Saint Lucia and St. Kitts and Nevis during this deployment.
