Front seat passenger killed in Arouca accident, driver hospitalised

One man is dead following a fatal road traffic accident which occurred in Arouca on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Roger Darbro.

According to reports, Dabro was the front seat passenger in a Nissan Almera motor vehicle which was proceeding in a westerly direction along the Eastern Main Road in Arouca. On reaching near Sahatee Street, the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The car hit a wall, spun and hit a post before stopping in an easterly direction along the roadway.

Sources say most of the impact occurred on the passenger’s side and resulted in Darbro’s death.

The “Jaws of Life” had to be used to extricate the deceased from the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the driver suffered injuries and was rushed for medical treatment.

Up to 7 am he was still alive and is expected to be questioned by investigators later today.

Police suspect that speed may have played a role in the crash based on the damages observed.

This is the third road fatality for the year to date.
