"Full Extreme' tops Road March race

Speaking to Loop after the announcement of their victory, MX Prime said they congratulated each other but they are late in publishing their podcast which is done on the first of every month.

“For us it is business as usual. There are fans who look out for our podcast. We’ve been doing it for the last two years,” he said, acknowledging that in this instance fans will understand.

“We will try to get it out before the weekend,” he noted.

Full Extreme, a favourite from since the beginning of the year, was played 556 times on Carnival Monday and Tuesday according to the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO).

Last year’s Road March king Machel Montano took the second and third places. “Your Time Now” was played 72 times while his Road March contender “Beat It” only landed 18 plays.

MX Prime, who wrote the song, said today is a good day as they were able to make an impact.

He said, however, that all they have achieved can be erased in the next few months if they do not continue to put in the work.

“A lot of work has to be done, we have not started pushing hard enough yet,” he said.

Asked what he thought the appeal of the song was, MX said it is a pelau with a secret blend that they do not even know.

“Because of the combination in the pelau, it was made with love and it had a secret blend, we don’t even know what it is.  Somebody say while nobody was looking they throw something in the pot. Inspiration came when I came up with the bassline reminiscent of Shadow and Maestro and I went from there and when I put it in the more than capable hands of Johann (Seaton) and I sing it and brought in the guys to sing background vocals. That is what resonated with the people, it felt like home,” he said.
