Funeral held for slain prison officer
The funeral service for slain prison officer Richard Sandy was scheduled to take place on Wednesday morning at the St Barnabas Anglican Church, Cedar Drive, Pleasantville.
As a result, several prison officers have been given time off to attend the service of the well-loved officer.
This action, supported by Commissioner of Prisons William Alexander, has, in turn, resulted in the cancellation of visits to the various prison facilities throughout the country.
While these facilities will in “no way” be understaffed or placed in situations where officials would not be able to adequately respond any potential incidents, it does mean that relatives of inmates would not be able to be facilitated on Wednesday.
Normal visitations are expected to resume on Thursday.
Sandy was fatally shot on Saturday night in south Trinidad.
He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning at the San Fernando General Hospital.
More on this as it becomes available.
