Education Minister Anthony Garcia has condemned the killing of daycare teacher, Jezelle Phillip.
Phillip was stabbed to death at her workplace on George Street, Port of Spain on Monday.
Some pupils witnessed the attack.
In a statement on Tuesday extending condolences to the family of the slain day care services provider, Garcia denounced the killing.
Minister Garcia condemned the "senseless act of violence against someone who was making a positive contribution towards moulding the lives and minds of our nation’s children".
Garcia noted that Phillip has one child attending a primary school in Port-of-Spain.
The Ministry's Student Support Services Division (SSSD) will lend support by extending psychological and counselling support services to the child.
School Social Workers would also extend counselling services to the children of the alleged attacker.
The children attend public schools in the Port of Spain Education District.
And while the day care services centre does not fall under the purview of the Education Ministry, psychologists, guidance counsellors and school social workers from the Student Support Services Division are also willing to extend their services to the children of the day care services centre, if requested by their parents.
