Garcia pledges education equality for Universal Children's Day
Education Minister Anthony Garcia says his goal is to ensure that the school environment is safe, comfortable and a place where all children have equitable access to quality education.
He made the comment as he marked Universal Children’s Day 2019 on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
“Guided by the principles of quality, access, equity and good governance, major emphasis has been placed on inclusion for all children in the nation’s schools.”
“My wish for all children on Universal Children’s Day would be that all children, no matter their level of ability, learning style or challenge, would be able to receive a quality education at any school in Trinidad and Tobago. I want to continue to work toward building a system that will allow for equity in education where every child is able to get what he/she needs to succeed.”
Minister Garcia said the recent award of 400 state-sponsored scholarships shows the Government’s commitment and investment in youth.
This, as he referenced Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Centres and tertiary studies through the Government-Assisted Tuition Expenses (GATE) programme toward holistically developed citizens.
“Education is everyone’s business and responsibility. I want to appeal to everyone to work with the Ministry of Education to uplift our young people. Today and every other day empower and inspire a child to be the change needed for Trinidad and Tobago. Our greatest assets are our youth and as such, they must be cherished and valued.”
