Not so fast: Appointment of new Minister postponed

Senator Garvin Simonette will not be sworn in as the new Public Administration Minister, as previously announced by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

The OPM in a statement on Monday afternoon revealed that the swearing ceremony has been cancelled in light of 'new information.'

The Prime Minister will retain the Public Administration portfolio temporarily until a new appointment is made shortly.

Senator Garvin Simonette will replace Marlene McDonald as Public Administration Minister.

The Office of the Prime Minister made the announcement on Monday morning.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has advised President Paula-Mae Weekes to revoke the appointment of McDonald and appoint Senator Simonette as Minister of Public Administration.

The swearing-in ceremony for Senator Simonette will take place at the President’s House at 2 pm on Monday.

McDonald along with four others are due in court today to answer corruption charges.
