Glock pistol found in X-trail, Maraval man to appear in court

A Maraval man was scheduled to appear before the Port-of-Spain Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition.

33-year-old Cleon Romain of Beau Près Road, Maraval, was arrested by officers of the Maracas Bay Police Station during a stop and search exercise in the Maracas Bay district on Monday.

The exercise, led by Sgt Stephen Dowridge of the Maracas Bay Police Station, took place between 3:15 pm and 5:00 pm and also included officers of the Coastal Patrol Unit.

While conducting the exercise, officers stopped and searched a black Nissan X-trail motor vehicle with a female driver and two male passengers.

The search revealed a Glock pistol and 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition hidden in the glove compartment of the vehicle.

Romain was arrested in connection with the find and was subsequently charged by PC Shaquille McWilliams of the Maracas Bay Police Station.
