Gov’t intervenes after fire destroys homes in Beetham

Help is on the way for the 20 people affected by yesterday’s fire in Beetham Gardens.

Minister of Social Development, Camille Robinson-Regis, MP for Laventille West, Fitzgerald Hinds and MP for Morvant/Laventille, Adrian Leonce, met with the residents following the incident.

The affected residents had a chance to ventilate their concerns and needs, including clothing, school supplies and housing.

While most of the residents will now take shelter at the homes of family and friends, Minister Robinson-Regis promised that government officials would work together to provide permanent solutions.

In the interim, the victims were given hampers and will be provided with temporary food cards, appliances, school supplies and other necessities in the coming week.

Just before noon yesterday, a fire broke out on 25th Street, Phase 4 in Beetham Gardens. Fire officials reported that six homes were destroyed by fire and a seventh was affected by water damage.
