Groovy Soca winner to get a title
The winner of the Groovy Soca competition will get a title.
Fay Ann Lyons-Alvarez, Chairman of Caribbean Prestige Foundation, owners of the International Soca Monarch (iSM) confirmed to Loop that after discussions with some artists, the title will be bestowed upon the winner of that category.
At an artist consultation on Monday night, Lyons-Alvarez said the Groovy category would be just that and the winner will get $500,000. The Soca Monarch will be determined from the Power Soca competitors.
Writing on Instagram, Lyons-Alvarez said: "The brief that we had with the Artiste on Monday where discussions with Farmer Nappy and others who actually attended the meeting saw us working out the details of the groovy to be a monarch title as well."
She also explained the decision to use her Asylum band as the backing band.
"In addition we discussed ways to get our monarch to be included in other countries monarch and acknowledged as monarchs as well and further to that there was an exchange of ideas from the attending Artiste on past monarch happenings (one of which was band inclusion as D All stars band normally backed the Artiste for many monarchs) and the ability for me to schedule rehearsals using my band was not just sensible but manageable," she said.
Registration for ISM ends on Friday.
