Gun, ammo found in San Juan during hunt for murder suspect

Officers discovered a Glock pistol and a quantity ammunition while searching for a murder suspect in the San Juan area on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force were conducting an exercise along Bagatelle Extension Road, San Juan, between 10:30 am and 2:00 pm, after receiving information that a male suspect, wanted in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Lawrence Sydney, aka ‘Kareem’, was spotted in the area.  

Upon reaching the location, officers observed a man who ran off when he saw the police vehicle. The officers gave chase, but the suspect escaped.

A search of the area was conducted, during which one black pistol, along with one magazine with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, were found.

No arrest was made in connection with the find.

Sydney and three other men were at Shende Street, San Juan, on Monday, July 24, 2017, when they were shot at by four masked men.

All four suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital , where Sydney died of his injuries

Investigations are continuing.
