A loaded Taurus 9mm pistol was found near the Maraval Community Center on Monday night.

According to reports, the weapon, which was loaded with one round of 9mm ammunition, was found in a black plastic bag which also contained 26 grammes of marijuana.

Around 8:00 pm on Monday, officers of the Western Division Task Force received information which led them to a river bank just off the Morne Coco Road, in the vicinity of the Community Center.

The officers conducted a search of the area and they found and seized the black plastic bag which contained the illegal items.

However, at the time of the discovery no one was within sufficient proximity and as a result, no one was held.

The officers involved in this operation were Cpl Dominique, PC McClean, PC Gilkes, PC Genty, PC Peters, PC Boban, PC Charles, PC St John, PC Thompson, WPC Garvey, and WPC Matthews.

Police are calling on the public for their continued assistance, noting it was only through their cooperation that seizures of firearms were able to be made.
