Gun, tie straps, ski mask found in car on mosque compound

Three men were arrested and quantities of firearms, ammunition, marijuana and other items seized by officers of the Northern Division, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the La Horquetta and Carapo districts on Tuesday.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the exercise, which was coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Curtis Paul, was conducted between 3:00 pm and 8:30 pm, on Tuesday 21st May, 2019 and included officers of the La Horquetta Criminal Investigations Department, Crime Patrol Unit and Canine Branch.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to the Carapo district where they had cause to stop and search a white Tiida motor vehicle which was on the compound of the Carapo Mosque.

The search resulted in one revolver loaded with three round of ammo, one ski mask, two pairs of gloves, one bolt cutter and a number of tie straps being discovered in the vehicle.

Three men; a 35-year-old, a 32-year-old and a 19-year-old, all of Arima, who were in the vehicle at the time of the search were arrested in connection with the find.

Officers also discovered one pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition and 490 grammes of marijuana, in a separate incident during the exercise.

Investigations are ongoing.
