Guns and drugs seized in Sea Lots, Laventille

Two firearms were seized in the Port of Spain Division over the weekend during police exercises in Sea Lots and Laventille.

The exercises were supervised by Snr Sup Hodge Griffith, with assistance from ASP Ablack, Inspector MCGuirk, Sgt Lucas, Cpl Huggins, and Cpl Baptiste, among several others.

During these exercises, which lasted throughout Saturday and Sunday, officers had cause to make their way to Production Avenue, Sea Lots, where they searched a 30-year-old man.

In his possession, the lawmen allegedly found and seized a loaded firearm.

As a result, the suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody.

He was questioned and is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate today.

The officers also had cause to go to Mentor Alley, in Laventille, and while searching an abandoned lot of land in the area, PC Perez and PC Williams found and seized one shotgun, loaded with three rounds of 12-gauge cartridges.

The weapon, police said, was found hidden under a sheet of galvanize.

No one was arrested in connection with this find.

The officers also had cause to arrest a 19-year-old from St Barbs Road, Laventille, for having a quantity of marijuana on his person.

An estimated 270.5 grammes of the illegal drug was also found and seized in Production Avenue, Sea Lots.

No one was held in connection with this find.
