Guns found in garbage bag; 2 held in La Brea

In separate incidents, two people were held for ammunition possession in La Brea, while guns were seized in various locations throughout Trinidad.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said in updates on Saturday that a 29-year-old woman and man, also 29, both from La Brea, were arrested for possession of ammunition during anti-crime exercises on Friday March 29.

The exercise was carried out between the hours of 12:00am and 8:00pm in the Fyzabad and Oropouche districts and resulted in the two persons being arrested for possession of five rounds of 9mm ammunition.

In a separate incident, officers of the Central Division Special Crime Unit also seized two guns, ammunition and a quantity of marijuana on Friday when they came across a black garbage bag in Enterprise, Chaguanas. 

Police said around 4:00 pm, acting on information received, officers went to a bushy area at Walters Lane, Enterprise, where they found a black garbage bag containing one Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun with three rounds of 12 gauge ammunition, one .38 revolver with three rounds of .38 Special ammunition and 550 grammes of marijuana.

No arrests were made in connection with the finds. 

In another unrelated incident, one firearm and a quantity of ammunition were found in the Cumuto district while officers were carrying out an anti-crime exercise in the area on Friday.

According to reports, officers discovered one black revolver with six rounds of .38 Special ammunition and 260gms of marijuana at an abandoned building along Rapsey Trace, Cumuto.

No arrests were made.

In yet another incident, another firearm was found in Morvant on Friday.

Police said they received a tip-off and a party of officers proceeded to a bushy area in Red Hill, where they discovered a black plastic bag containing one silver and black Taurus pistol fitted with one magazine.

No arrests were made.
