Guyanese national killed in work accident
A 44-year-old Guyanese national was killed Sunday morning while loading a vessel at the Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL) port in Claxton Bay.
The deceased has been identified as Doodnauth Nateram of La Parfaite Harmonie, Guyana.
Reports indicate that around 2:30 am on Sunday, Nateram had come aboard a vessel docked in the port to help with the loading of a shipment of cement.
At the time of the incident, Nateram was said to be standing near to a railing, when he was accidentally hit and pinned by an excavator which was turning.
The police and emergency health services were immediately notified and the wounded man was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital.
However, he succumbed to his injuries while at the medical institution.
The 46-year-old operator of the excavator was questioned, but was subsequently released.
An autopsy has been ordered, however, based on initial information, the incident is being treated as accidental.
