St Augustine handyman chopped to death
The death of a 54-year-old man is currently engaging the attention of police.
The victim has been identified as Roger Rivers, of Mohammed Street, St Augustine.
His decomposing body was found at about 11:00 am on Monday at his home in St Augustine.
According to police reports, a neighbour detected a foul stench and upon investigating they found Rivers’ body.
The police and emergency health services were notified and the body was ordered removed from the scene by a district medical officer.
An autopsy was performed at the Forensic Science Center in St James by Dr Valery Alexandrov, and it revealed that the victim was chopped a total of five times to the back of the head.
One of the wounds was said to have been so severe, that it severed the spinal cord at the point of impact.
Rivers, police said, was a handyman in the area and a father of two.
He was not known to them for being involved in any criminal activities, and up to late Tuesday officials had no motive for the killing.
