The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has rejected claims made by Chaguanas Mayor Vandana Mohit, who has accused the People’s National Movement (PNM) of using confidential information from the HDC to canvass for the August 10 General Election.

The HDC said it has noted the comments attributed to the Mayor of Chaguanas and prospective candidate for Chaguanas East, which appeared in the online version of the Guardian newspaper on Monday July 13 and titled “Mayor accuses the PNM of using HDC files to canvass residents.”

It denied what it described as the "scurrilous accusations."

The HDC said it adheres to the strictest standards of confidentiality as it relates to clients’ information.

It added that an internal investigation will be launched.

"Ms. Mohit’s accusation therefore is unfounded given our policy and our approach to client information and data. Notwithstanding, the HDC will conduct an internal investigation on this matter."
