Home burnt down after deaths of daughter, father

The home where eight-year-old Makisha Maynard was killed, has been burnt down.

The wooden structure, which is located along Boysie Trace, Kelly Village, was destroyed on Monday afternoon.

Even the tree that the body of Makisha's father, Michael Maynard, was found hanging from, had been cut down. Police are trying to determine who would have committed the act.

The two were found dead on Sunday evening, however, police were told that Makisha may have been killed over 12 hours prior.

Police were told that early Sunday morning, Maynard allegedly beat his daughter for wetting the bed.

According to reports, the child was beaten and planassed with a cutlass.

She succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Police were told that Maynard then dressed his daughter and locked his 10-year-old son in the house, promising to return shortly.

Around 6 pm on Sunday, when the older man failed to come back, the boy escaped by jumping through a window and raised an alarm with neighbours.

A search was conducted and Michael Maynard’s body was found hanging near his home.

Makisha's lifeless body was found on a bed in the family’s house.
