Homemade shotgun found near desal plant

A homemade shotgun was seized near the WASA desalination plant in Moruga.

According to police sources, no one was arrested in connection with this find.

The firearm, which was not loaded, was seized on Wednesday afternoon during a police exercise by officers of the Southern Division.

The officers received key intelligence from members of the public which led them to a forested area off La Lune Road, Moruga.

It was here that the weapon was seized.

The exercise was supervised by Snr Sup Mohammed, Sup Nobbee, ASP Ali, and Inspector Simon.

Sgt Baron, PC Punwasie, and PC Phagoo, among others, conducted patrols.

La Brea teen caught with firearm

In a separate incident, an 18-year-old man was charged with firearm possession and was due to appear in court on Friday.

The suspect, who is from Union Village, La Brea, was held on Wednesday night during a police exercise by officers of the La Brea police station.

The officers received intelligence which led them to execute a search warrant at the home of the teenager.

When officers arrived they searched the suspect and one Valor 380 automatic pistol was found tucked in the waistband of his pants.

He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

The exercise was led by Snr Sup Gomez Cooper, Sup Ramphall, and ASP Ramdeen.
