Hospital security guard praised for helping visitor change tyre
Dasell George receives a hamper of appreciation from Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh
It is often said a random act of kindness costs nothing but brings the greatest reward.
This is the case with 18-year-old security guard Dasell George who is being praised after she assisted a male visitor at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex last week Friday.
Over the weekend, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh presented the young lady with a hamper in appreciation for her assistance in changing a flat tyre for the male visitor.
George also received high commendation on social media after the male visitor shared his experience on Facebook, in which he heaped praises on the young woman.
The post, which was shared on the Facebook page 'Missing Persons Trinidad and Tobago' on Friday, has been liked over 8000 times and shared over 4000 times.
The man explained that after a long day at the hospital he got a flat tyre.
He said he had not changed a tyre before and was worried about how he’d manage.
However, he said he was approached by George who assisted him without any hesitation.
“She reached the car and whilst picking up something that fell she said with a soft voice "Are you ok, Sir?".
I said "not really I am having a tough day". She said "That's ok but you know I am here to help." Without skipping a beat, she dropped down and started to remove the nuts from the wheel. I told her it’s not necessary and I can do it myself. She said "really it’s not a big deal" and indicated that I am sweating down the place in my nice outfit. I tried on multiple occasions to stop her but she helped and said that it is her pleasure.”
The man added that he was amazed by the young lady’s act of kindness.
Describing her as a ray of sunshine, the man said while George didn’t want any thanks or praise, she deserves it. He said that he would be writing a letter of commendation to her company.
“Daselle George has restored my faith in our young generation and our country. She is an exemplar among society and had me smiling and laughing all through the ordeal with her quick wit and her charming demeanour, the man added.
George's employer, Allied Security, also added to her accolades, presenting the young security officer with a certificate of achievement and cheque on Monday.
In a post to Facebook, the company said of George, "You serve as an inspiration to all our staff here at Allied Security and we wish you nothing but the best moving forward. We encourage all our officers to go the extra mile in both your professional and personal lives everyday. Try to impact one stranger in a positive way and watch as the results speak for themselves."
