Hurricane Katia, third to form in Atlantic

A third hurricane is set to threaten the US within the space of six days.

Hurricane Katia formed in the South Western Gulf of Mexico within minutes of Hurricane Jose.

According to the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC), a hurricane watch is in effect for the coast of the state of Veracruz, Mexico.

Katia is 185 miles (295 km) east of Tampico, Mexico, and has maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour (120 kph).

The NHC said, however, that some additional strengthening is forecast within the next 48 hours.

Jose was upgraded to a hurricane in the Atlantic, far east of Hurricane Irma which is currently on its way to Florida.

It is too early to determine whether Jose will batter the Caribbean or the Americas as weather projections are difficult when storms are so far out.
