Identities of men killed in police confrontation released
The two men killed in a confrontation with police in Enterprise on Wednesday afternoon have been identified as 24-year-old Jeremiah David Dixon and 34-year-old Jamaal Romeo.
Both men, Loop News was told, are from Port of Spain. They were both fatally shot along Lion Boulevard, Enterprise, Chaguanas.
Police were responding to a report of a kidnapping, and upon arriving at a house they were allegedly greeted with gunfire. The officers, in keeping with the use of force policy, returned fire, hitting Dixon and Romero.
The men were taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Two revolvers were seized at the scene. There were no injuries sustained by the officers.
Police were told that the two kidnapped victims were abducted at gunpoint after meeting six persons at Rodney Road, Endeavour at about 1pm that day. They were robbed and taken to a house in Enterprise where they were held and beaten for approximately two hours.
They were able to escape and make a report to police and were taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility for treatment. They were subsequently transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Centre for further examination. Police said they had suffered chop wounds and bruises.
The exercise was supervised by Snr Supt Simon, Supt Mystar, ASP Pierre and included Ag Supt John of the Central Division Operations Unit/Chaguanas Division Task Force (CDTF).
