Imbert denies involvement in HDC project

Finance Minister Colm Imbert has no involvement in any housing project being undertaken by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) as a public/private partnership development.

A statement issued by the Finance Ministry on Wednesday addressed comments made by former housing minister Dr Roodal Moonilal published in a daily newspaper relating to the alleged reason for the delay in the execution of an HDC project.

The former minister questioned whether Imbert declined to give a government guarantee to the contractor on the project because of a private dispute.

Imbert, however, denied involvement in the HDC project and added that he is, therefore, not required to give any guarantee of any kind for any purpose whatever.

The Minister further indicated that the project in question is under the purview of the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, and not the Finance Ministry.

Imbert added that he would never act in the way suggested by Moonilal, and rejected any such inference.

He said the allegation that he has declined to give a guarantee for this housing project for personal reasons, or for any reason, is entirely untrue.
