Imbert: Finance Ministry treated NCC with respect

Finance Minister Colm Imbert is chastising a "misinformed media" for statements made in the Opinion section of the Sunday Express on February 17.

He noted that the Finance Ministry has been accused of “arbitrarily” determining funding for Carnival whilst having no transparent processes for application and receipt of Carnival funding by entities.

In seeking to clarify these concerns, Minister Imbert sought to provide a table of monies requested by the National Carnival Commission (NCC), dates requested, amounts released and dates this occurred.

He said this information was provided as part of the Government’s commitment to public education and dispelling fake news.

Imbert explained that all requests for funding to the Finance Ministry must be document-supported and submitted by clear deadlines.

He added that further, in 2019, the (NCC) through its line Ministry has made only two requests so far to the Ministry of Finance for funding of the 2019 Carnival and both requests have been honoured in a timely manner.

See table for NCC Funding below:

The Minister of Finance stated that not only has the Ministry provided funding to the tune of $88.9 million so far for the 2019 Carnival, it has done so with a tried and tested process that is both timely and efficient, thereby treating both the NCC and the Carnival it is responsible for managing in a respectful manner.
