Int'l Bashment Soca 2019 attracts more entrants, countries, women

Organisers of the International Bashment Soca competition, which is in its second year, are keeping the total number of 2019 entries under wraps but they have confirmed that they've hit a new record high, with more women from more countries in the mix as well.

4D Entertainment announced the 25 semi-finalists who will be vying for the public's votes to make it to the Yello International Bashment Soca Monarch competition and Beach Party on Saturday, July 6. The final 12 with the highest number of votes after this semi-final round will go up against the reigning IBS Monarch Lil Rick. 

Revealing the semifinalists at 3:00 pm on Hott 95.3 Fm, 98.1 Fm as well as live on the International Bashment Soca Monarch Instagram page, promoters pointed out that there has been an improvement in the quality of song submitted.

Rudy Maloney of 4D Entertainment said that they continue to be impressed with the growth in the artform.

"This year we saw some improvements in the songs and we saw some stories being told and with the introduction of the fusion it has improved the quality of some of the songs.

"The finalists and their producers will participate in a writers workshop to assist them in improving their craft to impact the growing cultural and musical landscape."

The 25 semifinalists which include four female artists, as well as artists from outside of Barbados, are as follows:

Voting will take place on the International Soca Monarch website for five days and commences from 12:01 am Thursday, June 13, until 11:59 pm Monday, June 17. Persons are allowed to vote every 24 hours.

The International Bashment Soca Monarch will receive $60,000 in cash while the second position will receive $15,000 and third position $5,000.The remaining nine entertainers will also receive a performance fee along with a few prizes. The additional prizes for competitors beyond the winner were called for by Bashment soca artistes who did not prefer the original winner-takes-all setup, and the organizers and sponsors have answered their call.

Promoters encouraged fans and bashment soca lovers to attend "Wings and Whiskey" held at De House Bar And Grill, Kensington Oval tonight, Wednesday, June 12, where the 25 semi-finalists will make their first appearance.
