Investigations ongoing into death of Venezuelan man in Glencoe

The death of Venezuelan national Jose Rodriguez is still engaging the attention of police.

Rodriguez, 36, was shot dead in the driver’s seat of a white Nissan X-Trail along the Western Main Road, Glencoe on Thursday afternoon.

In a bid to escape the gunman, Rodriguez floored on the gas pedal, crashed through a wall at Highland Plaza and into a Toyota Hilux which was parked nearby.

However, this attempt was not successful and the 36-year-old was hit multiple times about the body.

He succumbed to his injuries while slumped against the passenger seat of the SUV.

Police are not certain if Rodriguez was the target of the shooter as he was driving a vehicle which was said to be owned by a “high-priority offender”.

Rodriguez is the third Venezuelan national murdered in a matter of weeks in this country.
