Updated at 8 am on September 3:

Former leader of the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) and football executive Jack Warner has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a Facebook post on Thursday morning, an administrator for Warner's page explained that while he does have the virus, he is being treated and is in good spirits.

This announcement followed confirmation from his communications team on Wednesday night that Warner was alive and resting comfortably.

The team was forced to address rumours swirling on social media and via messenger apps that Warner had passed away.

Members of his team assured that the former FIFA Vice President was ‘resting comfortably’ and that the public would be kept abreast of his progress.

At the time, the team did not confirm whether 77-year-old Warner was warded at hospital or what ailment he was suffering from.

Loop also understands that the claims of ILP campaign members being diagnosed with COVID-19 were false.
