Jamaican held after robbing businessman, 70

A Jamaican national is in custody after he allegedly robbed a 70-year-old businessman of $180,000.

According to police reports, the victim, a proprietor of Superstore limited, was attempting to make a deposit at First Citizen’s Bank in Arima, around 5.45 pm yesterday.

While there, he was approached by the suspect, a 32-year-old man who resides in Trite Crescent, Malabar.

The man snatched a bag which the 70-year-old was holding which contained the cash and made his escape by running north along Woodford Street.

The police were notified and a team of officers including PC Hamel, PC Norville, and PC Loobie, responded.

They were able to detain the suspect a short distance away.

Inquiries are continuing.
