Jamaican national denied entry into T&T escapes from airport

A Jamaican national, who was refused entry into Trinidad and Tobago and awaiting a return flight to Jamaica, eluded Immigration and airline security officials and exited the Piarco International Airport.

The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago confirmed to LoopTT that the incident occurred on Saturday.

In a statement, it said by law, persons who are refused entry by the Immigration Division become the responsibility of the airline.

It added that it is not in a position to discuss security measures being put in place to prevent a recurrence of this situation.

However, it said such questions could be directed to the Immigration Division or the airline’s security.

The Authority noted that the matter was reported to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and is currently being investigated.
