Jamaican national shot dead in Port of Spain

A man who was gunned down in Port of Spain on Friday afternoon has been identified as 25-year-old Augustus Anthony Williams.

Williams, LoopTT was told, was a Jamaican national and was granted residency in this country in 2013.

His death is said to be gang-related.

According to police reports, at about 1:15 pm yesterday, Williams was last seen alive walking along Upper Oxford Street, Port of Spain.

He was confronted by an unknown assailant during which several loud explosions were heard.

The 25-year-old was next seen lying face down on the ground bleeding from multiple gunshot injuries to the body.

He died on the scene.

The body was viewed by a district medical officer and ordered removed from the scene.

An autopsy is expected to be performed at the Forensic Science Centre in St James on Monday.

Investigations are continuing.
