Jewellery store owner shot during robbery
A 44-year-old businessman remains warded after being shot in Penal.
The victim, Roger Pilgrim, from Siparia was at his business place – Javier’s Jewellery Shop – at the GN Shopping Center in Penal when the incident occurred.
According to reports, three men entered the store around 11 am on Tuesday, and announced a hold up.
They then stole a quantity of jewellery, including gold rings and chains.
However, during the robbery, one of the men who was armed with a firearm, shot Pilgrim in the abdomen.
The assailants then escaped in a white AD Wagon which was outside.
The police and emergency health services were notified and the wounded man was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.
He remained warded up to Thursday morning.
The matter is being investigated by a team of officers led by Sgt Gookool.
The investigators have since seized CCTV footage and are pursuing several leads with the aim of making an arrest in the immediate future.
