Journalist Carl Jacobs has died, singer Carl Jacobs is alive
Veteran singer/composer Carl Jacobs is alive and well.
Veteran journalist Carl Jacobs has passed away.
As the two men shared the same name, the latter's death has caused some confusion on social media as many believed it was the entertainer who had died. Some had posted messages of condolences to him while others dismissed the news as fake news.
But singer Jacobs' wife Carol sought to dispel the rumours of her husband's death in a Facebook post saying the rumours would be worrisome to his elderly mother.
"Carl Jacobs is ALIVE and WELL," she posted.
"People who spread these rumours are stupid. He just had to call his mother and tell her to ignore it. His mother is in her eighties. Imagine how she would feel if she heard something like that. These ******* don't think? How can anyone sit down and spread these things?"
She added that over 20 people had contacted her questioning whether the news was true.
The post prompted the late journalist's colleagues to clarify that it was someone else of the same name that had passed away.
Carl Jacobs (the journalist) was a former editor of the Trinidad Guardian Newspaper.
The Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACMW) sent its condolences on his passing, noting that the Caribbean media fraternity had lost two veterans as Jamaican sports journalist Tony Becca has also passed away.
"The Caribbean has lost two outstanding media veterans," the ACMW said.
