JSC launches survey on workplace sexual harassment
If you’ve had to deal with unwanted conduct of a sexual nature in the workplace, the Joint Select Committee on Human Rights, Equality and Diversity wants to hear about it.
The Committee has launched a 40-question survey as part of a data collection exercise as it conducts an inquiry into sexual harassment in the workplace, seeking to determine, among other things, whether sexual harassment in the workplace is taken seriously and how the response can be strengthened.
Members of the public are invited to complete this questionnaire as a source of written evidence.
Information gathered will be used to assist the Committee in formulating findings and recommendations in relation to the subject of the inquiry.
Participants in the survey are assured that their responses are confidential.
The Committee has set out to understand the challenges related to sexual harassment in the workplace, and examine the prevalence of allegations and instances of sexual harassment in the workplace.
During the course of the inquiry, the Committee will examine and make recommendations on management procedures and mechanisms to seek redress as a victim of sexual harassment in the workplace, as well as current legislation and policies (local, regional and international) to treat with victims of sexual harassment in workplaces in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Joint Select Committee on Human Rights, Equality and Diversity has the mandate to consider from time to time and report whenever necessary, on all matters related to the compatibility of Acts of Parliament with human rights, and any matters related to human rights in Trinidad and Tobago (but excluding consideration of individual cases).
The Committee is also mandated to look at Government compliance with national and international human rights instruments to which Trinidad and Tobago is a party; and the promotion of measures designed to enhance the equalisation of opportunities and improvement in the quality of life and status of all peoples including marginalised groups on the basis of gender, age (elderly, youth, children) disability; as well as the creation of an inclusive and more equitable society through greater social justice and sustainable human development within Trinidad and Tobago.
