Scores of people gathered at the Barakah Grounds in Chaguanas on Friday morning to collect hampers organised by businessman Inshan Ishmael, in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
According to the public health regulations, gatherings of more than five people are not allowed.
Police visited the Barakah Grounds on Friday, where large numbers of people were observed on the compound.
Police Commissioner Gary Griffith told LoopNews that officers met with the businessman on Friday to discuss how he could carry out the initiative, while abiding by the social distancing rules in place.
Commissioner Griffith noted that police were not trying to stop the hamper distribution and commended the businessman for the worthy cause.
