Lennox Petroleum initiates legal action against OWTU

Lennox Petroleum Services Limited has initiated legal action against members of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union, after workers staged a protest outside the company earlier this week.

Scores of workers picketed the company’s headquarters in San Fernando, demanding millions owed in back pay.

In a statement, the company said the workers forcibly entered the building and assaulted a security officer before searching the compound looking for the Chief Executive Officer.

“On the 29th of August 29th, members of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU) forcibly entered the compound of Lennox Petroleum Services and assaulted by beating, a security officer of our company. The members of the OWTU, who were about 40 members strong, then proceeded to search the compound shouting the Chief Executive Officer’s name and asking him to come out,” Lennox Petroleum Services Limited said.

The company said the matter was reported to the police.

It said it has also initiated legal action against the OWTU.

“These actions by the OWTU members were criminal in nature and amounted to trespass. As a result, our company has commenced in the High Court of the Justice against the OWTU in respect of these actions and have applied for an injunction to prevent any further acts of trespass as the OWTU have threatened continue illegal actions.

Lennox Petroleum Services Limited added that were unwarranted and designed to intimidate management and staff.
