Loaded gun found near warehouse

The discovery of a loaded firearm near a warehouse in Tunapuna is currently engaging the attention of police.

The weapon, a silver and black Taurus Pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition, was allegedly found near the Gopaul’s Warehouse, along Centenary Street Extension, Tunapuna by a team of officers from the Rapid Response Unit.

It is believed that the weapon was stashed there by persons who were planning to commit a robbery in the district.

According to police reports, around 10:25 am on Sunday, PC Lakhan, PC James, and WPC Hannaway, were all on patrol in a marked police vehicle when they received key information which led them to Centenary Street Extension.

Once there, the officers had cause to search under a goods container where the loaded weapon was found.

The weapon, LoopTT was told, had its serial number and model number removed.

As a result, it is expected to be sent for ballistic testing to determine if it can be linked to any reports of crime in the district.
