Local Government Minister mourns Dumas' passing
Minister of Rural Government and Local Development, Kazim Hosein, has issued condolences to the family of former government minister Rennie Dumas after he passed away on Sunday morning.
In a statement he said Dumas, who previously served as local government minister, was a 'towering figure of dedicated service, good governance and a fellow brother in the People's National Movement".
"Today, as a nation, we mourn the loss of Rennie Dumas. He was a towering figure of dedicated service, good governance and a fellow brother in the People’s National Movement," he said.
"His great work in various portfolios in our nation’s government – as both a Senator and Opposition Senator, a Member of Parliament for Tobago East, a Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, a Minister of Public Utilities and the Environment, Local Government and Labour and Small and Micro- Enterprise Development – are of paramount value. He has left an undeniable mark on the political landscape of our country," Hosein said.
He added that Dumas brought his intellect, expertise and resourcefulness to every endeavour and his great service and contribution to the development of Trinidad and Tobago and that he will be remembered by his colleagues and citizens.
"I am grateful to stand in his wake at the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government, knowing that he has in great measure paved a way forward, especially in the area of local government reform."
"My heart goes out to his family and loved ones, and my prayers are with them at this time of loss and remembrance. May his memory shine on in our hearts and minds; and may his soul rest in eternal peace," he said.
