Longdenville man appears in court charged with murder of boy, 13

A Longdenville man who was been charged with the murder of 13-year-old Joash Pantin has appeared before the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charge.

Nari Maraj, a 38-year-old of Cashew Gardens, Longdenville was denied bail and remanded into custody when he stood before Magistrate Christine Charles on Thursday.

The victim, also of Cashew Gardens was last seen playing with some neighbourhood friends on December 1st and a missing person’s report was made to the Longdenville Police Post on the following day.

A search was carried out in the area and led to the discovery of the victim’s body in a bushy area approximately 200 metres away from his home.

The accused and a 15-year-old boy were initially detained for enquiries into the matter on December 3rd.

However, the minor was subsequently released and Maraj was charged on December 13th, following advice received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Honore Paul.

Investigations were supervised by Insp. (Ag.) Corrie, while WPC Callender, all of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 3, laid the charges.

The matter was adjourned to January 10th 2019.
