Longdenville man shot and killed by police

Over 16 days, there have been seven fatal confrontations with police officers.

The latest incident took place on Thursday afternoon along the Caparo Valley Road, Longdenville.

According to reports, around 4.00 pm on Thursday afternoon, officers of the Central Division were in the area searching for a man who had escaped legal custody.

While doing patrols, they were confronted by 21-year-old Jamal Baptiste of Church Street, Longdenville.

Police said Baptiste was armed with a firearm at the time, which he allegedly pointed at the officers.

Police said in keeping with their policies to defend their lives, they opened fire on the suspect.

Baptiste was hit several times about the body.

The officers placed him in the police vehicle and rushed him for medical treatment, however, he succumbed to his wounds at the Chaguanas District Health Facility.
